About Write4Zambia

A nation's story begins with its people.

Write 4 Zambia brings young people into the telling of Zambia's story. From family memories and local traditions to the places, people and ideas that shape our lives, every community has something to share.

Listen to older generations. Explore your community. Put your discoveries into words, so that what we know today can be carried into tomorrow.

“The greatest and first lesson in education and development must be about our identity.”

Assessment & recognition

A good story goes beyond polished writing.

Stories are assessed for originality, relevance, interest, research and the effort put into telling them. The programme recognises that participants have different levels of exposure, education and experience.

The validity of the story matters more than the sophistication of its writing. Entries are numbered and reviewed by a team of adjudicators.

What does the programme recognise?

The programme describes cash prizes, scholarships and e-Certificates of Participation. Specific awards and conditions will be announced for each competition cycle.

Can I include the people who helped me?

Yes. Writers are encouraged to acknowledge story sources, such as a grandmother, uncle, headman, local councillor or another community member.

Will the public be able to read the stories?

Selected stories will be prepared for public exhibition after entries close on 30 September 2027, leading into the October celebration programme.
